Miniature House

The Story of My Miniature House

Many of you already know that in addition to writing, one of my other passions is collecting miniatures. This includes dollhouses, furniture, accessories, etc.

My dad introduced this hobby to me when I was a little girl. I was immediately enamored. I still cherish the dollhouse and general store he built for me when I was about fifteen years old. We often frequented miniature shops and shows in Michigan, where I grew up. Miniature collecting always brings back fond memories of my dad.

Most of you are not aware that Chloe’s grandparents’ home in Astoria, OR from my manuscript, Our Selfless Journeys is inspired by a miniature house I purchased from Pat and Noel Thomas, a lovely couple and incredible miniature craftspeople, who happen to live in Astoria, Oregon.

I first learned about the Thomas’ when my dad shared an article about them when I was very young. About fourteen years ago, I was fortunate to be able to purchase their last remaining miniature house, since they retired from miniature making many years ago.

The setting of Our Selfless Journeys was inspired by this beautiful miniature home and my fondness for the movie, The Goonies, that was filmed in the quaint and picturesque town of Astoria, OR.

Below are a few photos of this breathtaking home, named the Seaview.

Furnishing and decorating it was a family hobby when my kids were young. My daughter, Brooke would accompany me to miniature shows and shops to select unique items. My son, Austin would remind us to select some nice items for the boy’s room, which resulted in this room becoming crammed with a train set, blocks, a rocking horse, sports items and more!

I hope you enjoy viewing the photos of this incredible house below.
